Thanasi Kokkinakis was successful in the first round of the 2023 Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open but the toughest test is yet to come.

The 26-year-old, who has recently won a Challenger title, had to fight through the qualifying in Indian Wells. Kokkinakis had no problems in showing his qualities in the qualifying competition and secured his pot in the main draw.

However, when the Australian learned his brutal draw for the event, he certainly wasn't happy. In the first round of the tournament, Kokkinakis took on wild card Brandon Holt and that wouldn't be a problem. But in the second round, the first-seeded Carlos Alcaraz awaited the winner of this match.

Kokkinakis started his first-round match well. He had a 13-point winning streak early in the first set and gained the needed advantage which he never lost. Thanks to his incredible serving, the Australian didn't lose a single point on his serve in the first set and won it comfortably 6-4.

In the second set, the one-time ATP-level title winner was unstoppable on his serve too. He won all of his points after his first serve and dropped only two points on his serve during the whole match.

Thanks to that and very solid returning, Kokkinakis had no problem in beating his opponent 6-4, 6-1 and setting up a second-round meeting with the World no. 2, Carlos Alcaraz.
