Teenage player from Russia was selected for a random anti-doping test earlier this year while competing and tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

After testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, a young Russian tennis player was disqualified from competitive play for nine months. Due to their young age, the 14-year-old who tested positive for meldonium during a random anti-doping test has not been named.

"Due to the player’s age, level and lack of access to anti-doping education, the sanction was set at nine months, backdated to the date of the player’s provisional suspension (March 5).

This means that the player is ineligible to compete in or attend any tennis events authorised, organised or sanctioned by the governing bodies of the sport until December 4, 2022." read the accompanying statement.

The player will be permitted to rejoin the senior tour in December, according to the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). They noted that as part of their reinstatement, the player in question will get a private schooling session.
