Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will hang up the racquet following the 2022 Roland Garros and the emotion of it all is finally starting to set in.

Tsonga had a long great career that had several highlight moments. The Frenchman played in a grand slam final and upset some of the biggest tennis players in the world and generally played a very risky but entertaining style of play. Towards the end of his career, injuries have prevented him from playing his best tennis which is why these final years have been quite quiet.

Tsonga announced recently that he will retire at the 2022 French Open and it was something that many saw coming. He played only a couple of matches both this and last year and it was evident that he can't perform the way he wants to anymore. Speaking ahead of his final event, Tsonga said:

“I feel both relieved to know that it's the last, because I still have my mind and my body telling me it's time to stop, and at the same time very excited. I've always loved playing here at Roland Garros, It has always been a very important moment in my career."

Tsonga will finish his career with 18 singles titles, two Masters, one silver medal and one Davis Cup. He further added:

"Today, I want to go on the court. I will meet a player who is very good, who is very consistent. I know it will be a tough game ahead. I'm happy to be able to experience this and whatever happens, it will be a celebration for me."

His most likely final match will be against Casper Ruud.
