Cilic Provides Career Update After Sharing Picture From Hospital

Marin Cilic has been dealing with some serious injury problems recently, and he provided another update on the situation.

Cilic has been around for a very long time and is a former Grand Slam champion. That US Open run was a spectacular one, and he sealed it with a win over Kei Nishikori. The Croatian didn't fall off after turning 30, playing some really strong tennis fairly recently, but injury problems have started to come up.

He totaled only four matches this year during his comeback attempt, but it didn't go that well, as he suffered a setback. It's a major one because it required a surgical intervention, which he underwent recently.

In a recent update, he shared a picture of himself in a hospital bed and provided a much-needed update on his condition.

"Hey guys, an update from me. The last few months have been spent trying to find solutions to treat difficulties I have with my knee. I made the decision to undergo another knee surgery, after careful consideration and lots of helpful advice from expert doctors."

"This felt like the best option to move forward to reach full recovery. My desire to play again at the highest level hasn't faded, on the contrary, it is as strong as ever, and I am hopeful that this additional surgery will help me get closer to being back on court."

It's unfortunate because this whole knee ordeal eerily resembles the knee issues Roger Federer started to have as he aged. The Swiss player ultimately never returned to the sport, and the Croatian will certainly try to avoid that.

At 35, he's not the youngest, and coming back won't be that easy. As a result of the surgery, he obviously won't be playing at the 2024 French Open.
