The 2024 Morocco Open will run from May 19th to 25th, and details of prize money distribution have been revealed.
This WTA 250 event is one of two tournaments that will be held on the African continent in the 2024 calendar. The Morocco Open will be played in Rabat, Morocco's capital city.
A 32-player singles field will headline the 21st edition of this tournament. The name that immediately jumps out from the initial entry list is that of 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu, who will use a special ranking to play her first WTA tournament since August 2023.
China's Yue Yuan, who became a first-time WTA champion in Austin this year, will be the top seed. Anna Blinkova, the defending champion Lucia Bronzetti, and Arantxa Rus will make up the top four seeds.
Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Martina Trevisan will look to continue the trend of Italian players excelling in Rabat. Veterans such as Tatjana Maria and Laura Siegemund will use their experience to overcome youth.
Camila Osorio, Nadia Podoroska, and Sara Sorribes Tormo are clay-court experts and will see this as a golden opportunity to win a trophy on their favorite surface.
This year's prize money is confirmed to be $267,082, which is the current standard for WTA 250 tournaments. This is precisely a 3% increase from last year's package.
Players competing at the 2024 Morocco Open can expect increased pay from 12 months ago. The champion in Rabat will earn $35,250 and receive 250 points. The runner-up will make a little over half of that, at $20,830, and get 163 points.
Semifinalists stand to gain five figures, amounting to $11,610 on top of 98 points. Players who exit the tournament in the quarterfinal stage will earn $6,608 and receive 54 points.
