Nadia Podoroska is an Argentinian professional tennis player who was born on February 10, 1997, in Rosario, Argentina. Coming from humble beginnings, Nadia was the first in her family to properly pick up sports as she has done.
Despite funding her tournaments and traveling being hard at the start, she managed to get enough experience together on the junior tour to gradually progress up to the women’s.
After spending the first years of her career on the ITF tour, 2016 was the year she made her WTA debut. After coming through the qualifying at the Bucharest Open, she ended up losing in the first round against number 6 seed Danka Kovinic.
This spurred her on and she went on to appear at that season’s US Open for what was her debut at Grand Slam level. She had to wait until the following year for her first win at the WTA level, with that coming at the 2017 Monterrey Open against Madison Brengle in the first round.
Her transition onto the WTA Tour as a fully-fledged member was not immediate, however, and she had to wait until 2020 to properly make it as a WTA regular. Following a couple of WTA 125 semifinal appearances, she went into that season’s French Open on a good run of form.
After battling through qualifying, she was up against Greet Minnen in the first round, who she convincingly saw off in straight sets. The wins started flooding in for the Argentine, and before she knew it, she was in the quarterfinal against number 3 seed Elina Svitolina.
Another convincing and straight-set win set her up for a Grand Slam semifinal against the tournament’s eventual winner, Iga Swiatek. This understandably propelled her up the rankings, helping her achieve her career-high ranking of world number 36 just a year later.
Her success is not limited to the singles court either. In 2021, Podoroska reached the semifinal of Roland Garros in doubles. She also won the doubles at the 2017 edition of the Bogota Open in Colombia, which was her first WTA Tour title.
