Daniil Medvedev and other Russian and Belarussian players were not allowed to compete at the 2022 Wimbledon, but paradoxically, it helped him.

Being unable to play a tournament is always a big setback for any player, especially when it is a Grand Slam tournament. Daniil Medvedev and all Russian and Belarussian players experienced that when they were not allowed to compete at the 2022 Wimbledon.

However, because of the ban Russian and Belarussian player, ATP has decided to strip Wimbledon off the ranking points. Therefore, Novak Djokovic was unable to defend his 2000 points and dropped to the seventh place of the ATP Rankings.

Also Rafael Nadal would have collected plenty of points for reaching semifinals, and would be even closer to the Russian player than his biggest rival from Serbia. Now, it seems that Medvedev will stay as world number for quite some time.

Alexander Zverev is his closest competitor, but the German is coming back from an injury that he suffered at the 2022 Roland Garros and it's unlikely that he will earn any points in the upcoming weeks. Rafael Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic are all quite far and won't be able to overtake the Russian prior to the 2022 US Open where he defends 2000 points.

And although, Daniil Medvedev could have won the Wimbledon if he took part, as it stands, he gained an advantage without much effort. Moreover, he also showed the tournament that he isn't really bothered by the ban as he enjoyed an F1 race during the 2022 Wimbledon final between Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios.
