Rafael Nadal has not had much succees since Roland Garros picking up some injuries but his coach Moya backed him for a strong return to form.

Overall, Nadal had a far better year than everyone had predicted, and Moya agreed with that in his interview at the ATP Finals. Both Nadal and Moya would have signed it at the start of the season because he won two grand slams, something that looked very far-fetched.

“He’s won two Slams, when you win two Slams in a year it’s always a good year, no matter what happens after that,” Moya said to Eurosport. “He has been a bit unlucky with injuries, two bad injuries during the year, but he’s a great competitor and fighter, and we don’t give up and we still believe there is a chance to play well here.

Nadal will give it his all against Auger-Aliassime, a player he defeated during his title run at Roland Garros, as he lost his opening match at the ATP Finals. In addition, his coach backed him to have a successful year in 2023 after a few unsuccessful months:

“He will be ready for next year, he is motivated, he has proved he can still play well and be a contender to win big tournaments. He is willing to still keep evolving and being competitive, so as long as that happens and his body holds up well he will be ready.”
