Protagonists of the second singles match on Monday at the 2022 ATP Finals in Turin met already for the fourth time this season.
Two former champions, Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas met after Andrey Rublev defeated Daniil Medvedev in the opening match of red group. The 21-time Grand Slam champion defeated the Greek already three times this season and he wanted to add his fourth in Turin.
It all started well for the 35-years-old Serbian, who kicked-off his 2022 ATP Finals campaign with a break of serve. He then dominantly served in the first set as he lost only four points throughout the set. Moreover, he hit 16 winners and made only 6 unforced errors to comfortably keep his lead and win the first set 6-4.
In the second set, Tsitsipas was the only player to have a break point, but he couldn't use it. Therefore, it had to be decided in a tie-break. Djokovic proved to be a better player in the tie-break by winning it 7-4 and securing his first win of the 2022 ATP Finals.
He will play against Daniil Medvedev in the next match as Tsitsipas will try to keep his chances of qualifying against Andrey Rublev, who already recorded one victory.
