Australia will play semifinals at the 2022 Davis Cup Finals after sensational comebacks from their no. 1 and 2 in the line-up.

World no. 84 Jordan Thompson started Australia's Davis Cup tie against Tallon Griekspoor from Netherlands. The Dutch player won the first set but the Australian was able to come back in the second to eventually prevail in the second and win 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in two hours and 55 minutes. Delighted with his victory, he said:

“Davis Cup is something special, you feel extra pressure, so I was a little bit tight to start with,” Thompson admitted after his win. “He was playing great tennis but I hung in there, got a bit more aggressive as the match went on. It means the world.”

After a lengthy battle, Alex de Minaur stepped on the court in an attempt to beat Botic van de Zandschulp and secure Australia's victory against the Dutch team.

But he didn't start well as he threw away 40-15 lead in the twelfth game of the first set and lost it 5-7. However, inspired by his compatriot Thomspon, he managed to come back and win in three sets.

De Minaur triumphed 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and 40 minutes and decided that no additional doubles will be needed. Australian Davis Cup team will take on winner of the tie between Spain and Croatia that will be played tomorrow in Malaga.
