Eugenie Bouchard was left stunned by the photo used for her credentials at the Vancouver Open this week because it deviated quite a bit from the norm.
The Canadian returned to competition after a long 17 months, during which she was away from the WTA Tour. She played her last competitive match at the 2021 Monterrey Open, losing to Lin Zhu in the opening round.
Now, Bouchard is back, and to start her comeback journey, she opted to compete at a lower-level tournament in Canada, the Vancouver Tennis Open.
With her long absence from the sport, tournament organizers probably didn't find a picture that they would be able to use for her credentials and went with quite a bizarre choice.
The picture used was from her Sports Illustrated 2018 cover shot and features Bouchard in a swimsuit instead of the typical headshot used for this type of credentials.
The 2014 Wimbledon runner-up found humor in the situation and posted a photo of the tournament pass on social media.
"Can someone from @vanopentennis credential office explain pls??"
Bouchard has been out of competition for 17 months as a result of right shoulder surgery and an extended recovery period.
The 28-year-old had originally planned to make her comeback at Wimbledon, but she withdrew from the tournament since it didn't offer any ranking points, which wouldn't be a good choice for her special ranking.
She then made the decision to compete at the WTA 125 tournament in Vancouver, but already in the first round of the tournament, the Canadian lost to Arianne Hartono 2-6, 2-6 in what was a disappointing comeback match for her.
Next, Bouchard plans to compete at the US Open, where she'll have to go through the qualifying at the tournament where she reached the fourth round twice, in 2014 and 2015.
