Jessica Pegula knows she grew up more privileged than others, but that does not stop her from being a nice, down-to-earth person.

The 28-year-old's father, Terry Pegula, owns the Buffalo Sabres in the National Hockey League and the Buffalo Bills in the National Football League, along with his wife and Jessica's mother, Kim.

Those investments and others make Terry Pegula a billionaire. That means Jessica never grew up worrying about money, and whatever resources she needed to improve as a player could be given to her.

However, those realities should not make fans dismiss Pegula's achievements. Money does not guarantee success, and she has worked incredibly hard to become an excellent player, leading to her unexpectedly surging up the rankings in the last two years.

Pegula had never won a Grand Slam main draw match before the 2020 US Open. She recently spoke about her down-to-earth nature despite her family's wealth, which might have contributed to the increased success in the last two years.

"No, I just mean like with my family and stuff, you know, I know I was more privileged than other people, and I'm aware of that. I try to be very down-to-earth, and I think I am,Yeah, I know that's maybe not the story people gravitate towards, right?"

Although it is not a story of a player fighting against the odds by succeeding from a poor background, Pegula says some people find her journey interesting, and she is also respected on the WTA Tour.

“They may think it's interesting. I know some people do, but, yeah, I'm aware of that and I know that. I also think I have a lot of people's respect as well. I think it's kind of known at least on tour and with players that, yeah, I have that respect. But again, it's kind of under the radar. So I don't know. Maybe that's just me, I guess."
