18-years-old Coco Gauff is set to become new doubles world number 1 after winning the title in Toronto with Jessica Pegula.

The teenage sensation is having a great year and not just in singles but also in doubles. After playing the 2022 Roland Garros final with Jessica Pegula, the pairing lifted the trophy at the WTA 1000 event in Toronto and both will make a major move in the WTA Rankings.

The American duo faced Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Ellen Perez in their final match and they didn't start well. Their opponents led 3-0 with two breaks early in the first set, but Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula fought back.

They managed to get three breaks and win 6 out of 7 remaining games played in the first set to win it 6-4. In the second set, Gauff and Pegula had 5 match points, but they couldn't use any of them and eventually, Melichar-Martinez and Perez won the set in tie-break.

Yet, Gauff and Pegula managed to stay calm in the super tie-break and won it 10-5. That guarantees Coco Gauff to become new world number 1 and also Jessica Pegula will make a major move. Previously, her career-high was the 12th place and now, she will move to world no. 8.
