Eugenie Bouchard has been away from tennis for a long time, but that may change during the upcoming grass-court season.
The Canadian remains one of the best-known players in women's tennis. Admittedly, her results since reaching the 2014 Wimbledon final have dropped off, but she has a big personality that many fans love.
Bouchard had found some form in the early months of 2021. She made an unexpected run to the final in Guadalajara in March of that year, playing some impressive tennis along the way in Mexico.
Unfortunately, Bouchard sustained a tear in her right shoulder during her first-round victory against Caroline Dolehide in Guadalajara. The severity of the issue and the lengthy recovery time required were not immediately apparent.
Bouchard eventually had arthroscopic surgery on her shoulder in June. The 28-year-old has not competed since, and her fans have been inching to know when she will be back on court.
No official news has been given about which tournament Bouchard will return to. However, a recent Instagram post from the Wimbledon runner-up indicates it could be an event on grass.
As can be seen below, Bouchard shared a photo of her posing alongside her coach. The backdrop clearly shows that the pair are working together on grass, meaning she is likely hoping to return at a grass-court tournament.
It is unclear whether Bouchard hopes to return at Wimbledon or a warmup event before then. There are some high-profile WTA tournaments on grass before Wimbledon, such as the Berlin Open and the Eastbourne International.
For now, Bouchard's fans will be encouraged by her Instagram post. It is great to see the Canadian on the road to recovery. Hopefully, she can find some of her past brilliance when she does return to the court. Her immense talent is undoubtedly still there.
