After withdrawing from the 2022 Roland Garros, Andy Murray will take part in the Challenger tournament in Surbiton which is played in the same period as the second Grand Slam of the season.

Andy Murray, the former world number one, will not play at Roland Garros in 2022 because he wants to focus on Wimbledon, where he won twice. And during the preparation for the only grass-court Grand Slam tournament of the season, the former world number 1 will compete at a challenger tournament, Surbiton Trophy.

The three-time Grand Slam champion was going to forgo the entire clay court season before taking a wildcard into the Madrid Open earlier this month. Andy Murray started the tournament well, beating Dominic Thiem and Denis Shapovalov before withdrawing from the match against Novak Djokovic in the third round.

Murray currently appears to be concentrating his preparations on the grass court season. Murray hasn't played since a first-round exit at Roland Garros in 2020, and his Wimbledon run in 2021 ended in the third round. His fellow countryman, Jack Draper will also take part at the event with another British players, Liam Broady and Jay Clarke being high on the alternate list.

In a statement, Murray said: "It’s no secret how much I enjoy playing on the grass in front of a home crowd, so I am really excited to be be playing at Surbiton and Queens this year and I can't wait to get started!"
