Coco Gauff started working with a new coach recently, and she opened up about the recent addition to her team during her stay at the 2024 Wuhan Open.
The American player is only 20 years old, but she already has experience working with multiple different coaches. Initially, her coach was her father, Corey. Gauff also worked with Patrick Mouratoglou, and last year, she hired Brad Gilbert.
Gilbert seemingly brought new wind into Gauff's game. Under him, she went on to win the Cincinnati Open and US Open, which is still the biggest victory of her career.
After not reaching the same heights this year, the 20-year-old has decided to part ways with Gilbert. Since the start of the Asian Swing, she has been working with a new coach, Matt Daly.
Her collaboration with Daly has been the best possible so far, as the American player has yet to lose a tennis match since she started working with him. She won the China Open, and after that, she also started her 2024 Wuhan Open campaign with a win.
The victory over Viktoriya Tomova in Wuhan extended her winning streak to seven matches, and it was a stylish win, as she completely dominated her opponent, winning the match 6-1, 6-2.
After the match, last year's US Open champion was asked about her new coaching collaboration, which seemingly couldn't be better. Gauff explained that Dally has already implemented some tweaks in her game.
"Yeah, Matt is a very relaxed, calm guy. He keeps the view of the perspective of tennis. Right now, he's helping me tweak some things in my game."
The two-time WTA 1000 champion also spoke about how Dally works with Jean-Christophe Faurel, Gauff's other coach, who has been part of her team for a longer period.
"I think the balance between him and JC has been a very good balance. They're both kind of very similar people in a way. They're both very relaxed. Maybe slightly different approaches. At the end, they both want the same thing. We agree on the same things to work on."
Gauff is very happy about the setup at the moment. According to her, Faurel and Dally work very well together, and both want to push her to become a better player. This started with Dally's proposed tweaks to her game.
"Yeah, I think it's been a good balance of just having not necessarily different opinions, because they kind of say the same things, but to me, I get the same voice, but I'm sure they're bouncing different ideas off each other. It's nice that they communicate really well because when they come to me it's one voice."
They will certainly have more time to work on Gauff's game during the off-season, even though she claimed that she sees this part of the season as an early pre-season.
In Wuhan, she will try to reach the quarter-finals. Her next opponent will be Marta Kostyuk, who advanced into the third round after Amanda Anisimova withdrew from the tournament.
