Victoria Mboko's rise this season has been incredible, and an old social media post showed that Bianca Andreescu played a small role in her development.
Andreescu can relate better than anyone to what Mboko is experiencing. The 18-year-old thrilled her home fans by winning the 2025 Canadian Open in Montreal, a success that made fans watching the ATP final in Toronto interrupt play by celebrating her success.
In 2019, Andreescu also burst onto the scene as an 18 and 19-year-old. She won that year's Indian Wells Open and Canadian Open before becoming a worldwide star by securing the US Open title, beating Serena Williams in the final.
Since then, Andreescu has suffered from a combination of form and fitness issues. Her latest physical setback was in Montreal, when she withdrew from the tournament despite winning in the opening round against Barbora Krejcikova.
Despite those struggles, Andreescu is one of the most affable people in tennis. Her social media post with Mboko from 2021 to raise support for an initiative to support young Canadians demonstrates that reality.

Andreescu raised funds for initiative that helped Mboko

In a tweet on December 15th, 2021, which included a picture of Andreescu with Mboko as a child, she asked fans to donate to Tennis Canada's Where I'm Raised Campaign and promised to match all donations until the end of that month.
"Join me and young Canadian superstar Victoria Mboko by donating to Tennis Canada’s Where I’m Raised campaign. I’ll be matching donations until the end of the month to help raise Canada’s next tennis champions through youth programming and initiatives. Please donate today."
Some ATP and WTA Tours players have complained about not receiving much support from their country's federation, but Mboko's experience is the opposite. She credits Tennis Canada as pivotal in her development.
Andreescu raising funds to support the next generation of Canadian fans is not surprising. She has spoken about Mboko previously, and after her success in Montreal. The 25-year-old was very happy for the 18-year-old.
Naomi Osaka was Mboko's idol, which is why many were disappointed with the four-time Grand Slam champion for not mentioning her in the ceremony after losing the Canadian Open final, but Mboko also looked up to Andreescu.

Andreescu has also been kind to other players

In past interviews, Andreescu has mentioned how cold other players were to her when she emerged on the WTA Tour. That experience made her determined to ensure that others received better treatment.
Earlier this season, Andreeva recounted how nice Andreescu was when she rose on the professional circuit in 2023, and clearly held the Grand Slam champion in high regard.
The current generation of WTA players seems to have a closer bond than the previous ones. For example, Aryna Sabalenka and Paula Badosa are best friends, and Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula were doubles partners for a few years despite being rivals at the top in singles.
Sabalenka's controversial comments about Coco Gauff after losing the French Open final could have changed that respectful dynamic, but the Belarusian issued a heartfelt apology afterward, and the pair did a TikTok together at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.
