Holger Rune is one of the youngest players on the
ATP Tour, and when he doesn't practice or compete, he sometimes spends time on social media.
Every social media user knows there are different types of content one can find on these platforms. From educational images and videos, to content from favorite celebrities, jokes, but also fake news.
In recent times, there has been a significant growth in the number of accounts that focus on posting fake news. This trend is especially popular on X (formerly Twitter), with the users running these accounts priding themselves in "pranking" those who believe the "news" they post.
In basketball, the NBA in particular, there is an account called NBA Centel, mimicking an account called NBA Central, which posts real NBA news. As of recently, there is a similar account dedicated to tennis as well, called Tennis Centel.
The account often posts news that could be believable, but is not true. For example, it reported that Iga Swiatek sells her Wimbledon towels on eBay, or that Stefanos Tsitsipas wants to start a group therapy with fellow ATP players.
Since the WTA player
Veronika Kudermetova recently said that Rune tried approaching her, not knowing she had a husband, the account has started making fun of the Dane's dating life.
Rune didn't like that, calling out the account and asking his followers to report it. For a moment,
Tennis Centel disappeared from X, but that didn't last too long. It returned a few hours later and has continued making fun of Rune's love life.
While competing at the 2025
Cincinnati Open, Rune has talked about why he called out the account, believing that this type of content is provocative for the athletes.
"I like jokes, I like fun, all of this, but sometimes it gets a bit too real in a way—even though it’s fake. That’s when I don’t think it’s necessary. Obviously, it’s tough to control the whole internet!"
"I think some posts where it looks too real even though it’s super fake, those are not nice. It’s a little bit provocative, as well, but I suppose everyone can do what they want."
Holger Rune stays in touch with Andre Agassi
Apart from calling out X accounts, Rune has also been busy on the tennis courts.
He recently worked with Andre Agassi, with many of his fans wondering whether the legendary American would ever become Rune's full-time coach.
Speaking in Cincinnati, the Danish player admitted that he's been in touch with Agassi, and that he's been receiving advice from the former American player.
"We’ve been in touch. We spoke after Toronto and he also messaged me today. It’s nice! We speak a little bit; he shares his view, I share my view. It’s nice to have someone to speak tennis with who is as into it as I am. I’ve been getting some really good feedback, which is always great."
