Any concerns about long-term damage to Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka's relationship after their 2025 Roland Garros final are over after the pair did a TikTok dance together.
Gauff recovered from losing the first set to defeat Sabalenka 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. The American dealt better with the windy conditions on Court Philippe-Chatrier and played a superb strategic match to triumph.
Sabalenka caused uproar with her comments afterward. She said the final result was down to her playing a bad match rather than Gauff's quality, and felt that Iga Swiatek would have defeated the 21-year-old.
Many deemed those remarks disrespectful. Gauff responded by stating that the comments were unfair and that no one can know what would have happened had Swiatek played her in the final.
To Sabalenka's credit, she delivered a genuine apology for comments she admitted were disrespectful and reached out to Gauff before that to say sorry and outline her respect for the world No. 2's achievement.
Any persisting rumors about bad blood between the pair can now end after the pair's TikTok dance together. Wimbledon's social media pages also posted the dance, which received a positive response from fans.
The dance can be watched below. They are not perfectly in sync, but that is not important. Gauff and Sabalenka seemed to have a lot of fun doing it, with the Roland Garros champion bursting out laughing afterward.
Many online fans praised Gauff for doing the video after Sabalenka's words about her. The most liked comment on Wimbledon's X (formerly Twitter) post of the dance said it demonstrated why Gauff is such a good role model.
"Coco chose to bail her out, that’s what this video is about. This video did more to help Aryna who was in the wrong and Coco indicating to her fans to let it go. It speaks a lot to Coco’s personality as a true role model."
The pair also did a second TikTok on Gauff's account. Using an inputted voice that is not their own, they asked whether fans had missed the duo before saying they had missed them.
Collaborations between top players are always great to see. Although Sabalenka's words could have led to a heated rivalry had she not apologized and Gauff not been gracious enough to accept it, players generally get along better than in the past.
Sabalenka and Swiatek did a TikTok together at the 2024 WTA Finals, when they were the world's No. 1 and No. 2 players. That moment instigated an improved relationship between the pair, who have practiced multiple times since.
On the men's side, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner's relationship is also very respectful. The pair showed their mutual class and fair play during Alcaraz's incredible Roland Garros final win by calling points for their opponent without the umpire needing to get involved.
Tennis is in a great place with so many role models for fans to follow. There were concerns about the future after Roger Federer, Serena Williams, and Rafael Nadal's retirements, but the new generation seems ready to lead the sport forward to an exciting future.
