The 2022 US Open becomes the first one since 2003 not to feature Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinal.

Along with Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal dominated tennis for a long time. Serena Williams performed similarly in the WTA, but as time goes on, new players appear and oust the more established ones. They all did that, and that is what has also occurred to them now.

After losing to Frances Tiafoe last night, Rafael Nadal made sure that this US Open will be a special one. Neither he nor Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic or Serena Williams are playing in the quarterfinals of the 2022 US Open. The last time that happened was in 2003.

The top two seeds on the men's side won't go to the quarterfinals at the US Open this year either. It didn't happen since 2000. In that year's final, Marat Safin, the sixth seed, defeated Pete Sampras, the fourth seed in three sets.
