In a statement, the 23-time Grand slam champion called it a "dream come true" moment to be tasked with the honor of hosting the ESPYs for the first time and is looking ahead to celebrate an "unprecedented" year for women athletes.

"I couldn’t be more excited to host the ESPYs. This is a dream come true for me, and something I’ve wanted to do for as long as I can remember. It has been a sensational year for sports and an unprecedented one for female athletes. I can’t wait to celebrate everyone on-stage in July."

It's not by accident that Williams was given this resposibility. She has graced this stage before as one of the most decorated athletes not just in tennis but in all sports.

The 42-year-old mother-of-two was previously named Best Female Tennis Player ten times and took home the prestigious Best Female Athlete award in 2003 and 2013.

WTA players who recently won an award at the ESPYs include four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka (2021) and British tennis star Emma Raducanu (2022).
