Aryna Sabalenka is one of the main favourites to win the 2023 Indian Wells and she confirmed it already in her first match.

The Belarusian competed in Dubai after her Australian Open triumph, but she lost to eventual champion Barbora Krejcikova in the quarterfinals. Sabalenka then didn't participate in any event as she geared up for the 2023 Indian Wells.

Before the WTA 1000 event in the Californian desert started, Sabalenka won the 2023 Eisenhower Cup with Taylor Fritz and showed that she was ready for the tournament in the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

In the second round of the 2023 Indian Wells, the world no. 2 took on Evgeniya Rodina, the player who was already in the Top 100 of the WTA Rankings in the past. But now, world no. 427 couldn't really threaten Sabalenka, who beat her twice in the past.

Despite a good start from Rodina, her opponent's qualities would soon be on full display. In the fourth game, Sabalenka broke her opponent for the first time in the match and by the sixth game, Rodina would experience for the last time how does it feel to win a game in this match.

Sabalenka went on to win eighth consecutive games and controlled the match in an hour and six minutes, winning it 6-2, 6-0 to set up a third-round clash with Lesia Tsurenko, who previously defeated the 29th-seeded Donna Vekic.
