Iga Swiatek will try to secure another Roland Garros final today and she's backed to do that by former player John McEnroe.
The American is in Paris working for Eurosport on the event and he was pulled aside by the broadcaster to talk about Swiatek and her chances this year. So far it's been going really well as she managed to advance to the semi-final after a really solid win over Coco Gauff.
It's a great thing to see, especially after her retirement in Rome which left many fans wondering about her status for Roland Garros. She calmed down everybody rather quickly and also quickly impressed everyone with her baking skills in Paris.
She's been favoured in every match she played and that will be the case for both the semi-final and final. John McEnroe sees her as the biggest favourite as well with only potentially Aryna Sabalenka proving bothersome. He'd like to see her go all the way as she's a wonderful representative for both Poland and Ukraine.
I think for sure she's the biggest favourite. Sabalenka is the one I think could, you know blow her off the court cause she hits so big. But on the clay, it's tougher to do. So big favourite. I hope you know she's been representing her country and representing Ukraine. So it's a beautiful thing to see.
It's not a particularly a different statement from other pundits who are also in Paris watching things unfold. Former Polish number one Agnieszka Radwanska also only sees Sabalenka as a potential threat but much like McEnroe she too thinks that Swiatek will get it.
There is shortage of confidence either for Swiatek as she came to expect deep runs at Roland Garros though the job is not yet done. Haddad Maia will be a solid test as will whoever she plays in the final on Saturday.
