Carlos Alcaraz revealed what he enjoys purchasing for himself when he travels to major tournaments, giving insight into his on-court habits.
Despite only turning 22 a few days ago, Alcaraz has already established himself as one of the marketable athletes worldwide. He is a multi-millionaire and could buy almost any expensive item he wants.
It would be understandable for someone of Alcaraz's age to buy very pricey items impulsively, but recent comments the Spaniard made indicate he does not splash out cash as freely as some might expect.
Alcaraz discussed the issue on an episode of the Tennis Channel's VIP Tennis Lounge with former French Open and Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza. The four-time Grand Slam winner revealed what he sometimes buys after reaching major semifinals.
"Maybe not after every big win, but for example at the Grand Slams, if I reach the semifinals I like to buy myself a new pair of sneakers."
The 22-year-old also told Muguruza that he buys a nice watch at the end of the season if his results throughout the year satisfy him. That purchase, being contingent on his achievements, shows that Alcaraz does not waste money easily.
"If I feel like I had a good season, at the end of the year I’ll buy myself a nice watch."
Muguruza found Alcaraz's answers amusing. The former WTA world No. 1 reminded him that the fans of VIP Tennis Lounge expect to hear stories of expensive purchases rather than how responsible players like Alcaraz are.
"Sneakers? You're such a responsible guy. This is VIP Tennis Lounge, we want to hear about something expensive!"
Although Alcaraz's responsibility at a young age might surprise some fans, the two-time Wimbledon champion's family life keeps him grounded. He regularly speaks about how much his parents and siblings mean to him.
Alcaraz often discusses how much he misses his family due to the traveling required to be a professional tennis player. It stops him from connecting with his siblings as often as he would like.
Jaime, Alcaraz's teenage brother, has already made headlines for being a talented player. Despite not wanting to put pressure on Jaime, Carlos does not hide that he is very good for someone so young and could become a great player.
There were concerns that Alcaraz would not be fit for the ongoing 2025 Italian Open after he missed the 2025 Madrid Open with an injury sustained in the 2025 Barcelona Open final against Holger Rune.
Thankfully, it seems like Alcaraz will be okay. Reports indicated that he would be ready for the tournament in Rome and is set to begin his campaign against Dusan Lajovic in the Italian capital.
However, Alcaraz will be overshadowed by Jannik Sinner's return to tennis after serving his three-month suspension from the World Anti-Doping Agency. He is probably relieved to make a comeback on home soil.
Rumors circulated that Sinner was in a relationship with the model Lara Leito. In a press conference at the tournament, the ATP world No. 1 confirmed that he is not currently dating anyone.
