Iga Swiatek's bakery at Roland Garros is going strong as the Polish superstar destroyed Xinyu Wang 6-0 6-0.
Iga Swiatek has become known for being a very thoughtful tennis player that never leaves her opponents empty-handed. Well, kind of, because she does leave them empty-handed when it comes to winning games but not entirely handing out bagels as parting gifts.
After serving one a piece in her first two matches at Roland Garros, Swiatek upped her level by serving two of those to Wang. It was almost unfair how well she played in this one because her opponent truly didn't have a chance. Requesting day matches is proving a great thing for her because she's just playing incredibly well under the sun.
This one was more of the same as she dominated rallies easily. She didn't face a single break point in the entire match barely allowing her opponent any points. It's particularly impressive on return because Swiatek gets a chance to unload immediately with the return and she rarely loses that advantage in a rally once she gets it.
10 winners in total in the first set and over 10 more in the second set for an almost flawless match. When your opponent wins only 8 of 34 points on their serve, you can't really do any better. Not losing a single game in the match only proves that. When you add that the match lasted only 52 minutes then it becomes pretty clear that some of her practices this week probably lasted longer.
There aren't many superlatives left to use for Swiatek as she once again proves to be the dominant force on clay and in Paris. With Elena Rybakina out of the event, there is only a handful of players that could technically beat her. The only remaining player in the draw that has a win over her this year is Sabalenka. Buckle up people, the bakery is shooting for 'unicorn' status.
