The 2025 Cincinnati Open will immediately follow the 2025 Canadian Open, and the prize money and ranking points for the tournament have been unveiled.
Organizers in Cincinnati are probably relieved that their event will not be held until after the Canadian Open. Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Novak Djokovic all withdrew from the men's singles held in Toronto.
Both 1000-level tournaments before the 2025 US Open are 12 days long for the first time. The extension of those events and the elimination of others from the calendar have caused controversy.
The ATP, in particular, might be regretting it after the number of players who withdrew from the Canadian Open. Matteo Berrettini and Grigor Dimitrov were two others who removed themselves from the entry list.
Hopefully, this year's Cincinnati Open features all the top players from the ATP and WTA Tours, like Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz. The 2024 edition of the tournament brought much excitement in the men's and women's singles.
Jannik Sinner defeated Frances Tiafoe to secure the men's title. That triumph came just a few days before his high-profile doping case, when he tested positive for clostebol, became publicly known to fans worldwide.
Aryna Sabalenka overcame Jessica Pegula in the women's final. The world No. 1 produced a blistering serving performance to win, and beat the same opponent a few weeks later to win the 2024 US Open.
Despite all the players competing in the same location, the prize money and ranking points given to ATP and WTA players at the 2025 Cincinnati Open will be slightly different. The men are guaranteed a higher financial reward per round.
This year's 2025 Cincinnati Open men's singles champion will earn $1,124,380 and 1,000 points. The ranking points for the women's winner are the same, but they are set to collect $752,275 for being the best female player at the tournament.
650 points will be given to the man and woman who finish as the runner-up in Cincinnati. That contrasts with the vast difference between the $597,890 given to the ATP runner-up and the $391,600 to the WTA player who accomplishes that.
$332,160 and 400 ranking points are guaranteed for the two men who lose in the semifinal. The points given to the women alter from that stage. Both WTA stars who fall at that stage will receive 390 points and $206,100.
Reaching the quarterfinals will also be good enough to collect a significant reward, especially for ATP players. The four men are set to walk away with 200 points and $189,075, contrasting with the women's 215 points and $107,000.
For the round of 16 and round of 32, ATP players will earn $103,225 and 100 points, and $60,400 and 50 points, respectively. The women who get that far are guaranteed to get $56,703 and 120 points, and $33,000 and 65 ranking points.
For the opening two rounds, the prizes are $35,260 and 30 points, and $23,760 and 10 points for the defeated ATP stars. WTA players will have $19,705 or $12,770 added to their bank accounts, and 35 or 10 points to their total in the rankings.
