2025 Canadian Open Toronto ATP Draw With Zverev, Fritz, Shelton & More

The weakened draw for the 2025 Canadian Open in Toronto has been released, lacking some of the biggest stars of the current game.

The ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto, which will run from July 27th to August 7th, will feature one of the weakest, if not the weakest, draws for a tournament of such category this season.

Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic all withdrew from the tournament, and the likes of Jack Draper, Grigor Dimitrov, and Tommy Paul joined them in withdrawing. This means that Matteo Arnaldi, ranked 44th in the world, is now the 32nd seed in Toronto.

The Italian was drawn into the top part of the draw, and his draw was quite brutal. He might have to face young prodigy Joao Fonseca as early as the second round of the tournament. The 18-year-old Brazilian will start against one of the qualifiers.

The top seed is Alexander Zverev, who will take on the winner of the match between Adam Walton and Benjamin Bonzi in the second round. On the opposite side of the draw, the second-seeded Taylor Fritz will start against either Camilo Ugo Carabelli or Roberto Carballes Baena.

Holger Rune is one of the former ATP Masters 1000 champions in the draw, and the young Dane will want to use the absence of the biggest stars to add a second such title to his collection. He will play his first match either against one of the qualifiers or against the big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Ben Shelton is one of the players who is always dangerous, and that is especially true on the hard courts. Despite being ranked eighth in the world, the young American will be the fourth seed in Toronto, which means he will avoid the other Top 4 seeds at least until the semi-finals.

Shelton's draw isn't easy, though. He will play against a qualifier or Marcos Giron in the second round, and his third-round opponent can be Brandon Nakashima.

Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev were once seen as the stars of their generation, but they have struggled to deliver big results in recent times. Maybe the Toronto draw will give them a chance to shine again.

Rublev is the sixth seed, and he landed in Fritz's quarter. The Russian player will start against Mattia Bellucci or Hugo Gaston. Medvedev, on the other hand, is the 10th seed, beginning against Luciano Darderi or a qualifier.
