Benjamin Bonzi was born on June 9, 1996, in Anduze, France, to Philippe and Dominique Bonzi. His father worked for car manufacturer Renault, while his mother was an accountant. He began playing tennis at the age of 6, before starting to train with the French Tennis Federation at the age of 14.

The Frenchman was an accomplished junior player, in both singles and doubles. Bonzi’s most notable achievement at the junior level was winning the 2014 French Open boys’ doubles title alongside Quentin Halys. They defeated Lucas Miedler and Akira Santillan in the final.

It took some time for Bonzi to establish himself on the ATP Tour. His first ATP match was as a wildcard at the French Open against future Grand Slam champion Daniil Medvedev, which he won after the Russian had to retire due to an injury.

Bonzi did not record another ATP victory for three years after this. That drought was also broken at the French Open against Emil Ruusuvuori. The following year, he picked up his first triumph at Wimbledon, where he defeated Marco Trungelliti.

A breakthrough then arrived in 2022 for Bonzi. After registering his first victory at the Australian Open, Bonzi reached an ATP semifinal for the first time at the Marseille Open. He was stopped at that stage by Andrey Rublev.

Bonzi progressed to the third round of a Masters 1000 event for the first time at the Indian Wells Open a few weeks later. This included a win against Lorenzo Sonego, before being stopped by future Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner.

Other victories throughout the season saw Bonzi end a season inside the Top 100 for the first time. Things got even better for Bonzi in 2023. He made his first appearance in an ATP final in Pune at the start of the year. The final against Tallon Griekspoor was an epic contest, with much quality tennis played. Unfortunately for Bonzi, he narrowly lost it 6-4, 5-7, 3-6.

The Frenchman made another final the following month on home soil at the Open 13 Provence. His run included wins against Alex de Minaur and Arthur Fils. But the final was too big a hurdle once again, this time ending in defeat to Hubert Hurkacz.

Bonzi also reached two Grand Slam third-rounds in 2023. The first was at the Australian Open, defeating 14th seed Pablo Carreno Busta from two sets down along the way. His other third-round appearance was at the US Open. That run included a triumph against home favorite Christopher Eubanks.
