The second leg of the popular Sunshine Double will get underway at the 2025 Miami Open, and the draw for the second ATP Masters 1000 event of the season has been released.
Men will play their second Masters event this year in Miami, running from March 19th until 30th, and it will come after a surprising result at the first such tournament in 2025. Jack Draper had a fantastic run in Indian Wells, winning his maiden ATP 1000 trophy.
The British player defeated the defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz, on his way to the trophy, but no one will beat the defending champion in Miami. Jannik Sinner won the tournament in 2024, and because of his three-month suspension, the Italian will be missing this year.
In his absence, there will be plenty of other former champions who will try to add another trophy. Alcaraz is one of them, having won the 2022 edition of the tournament. This year, the Spaniard is the second seed, and he will start against the winner of the match between Aleksandar Vukic and David Goffin. All seeded players have a first-round bye, which is why they start in the second round.
Another former champion, and, in fact, the joint-most successful man (with Andre Agassi) in the history of the tournament, is Novak Djokovic.
The Serbian lost three consecutive matches for the first time since 2018 this year, and he will want to snap that losing streak in Miami. But doing that won't be easy, quite the opposite.
The fourth-seeded Serbian can meet a player he knows very well. Hamad Medjedovic, whose tennis career was heavily supported by Djokovic in his early years, will play against Rinky HIjikata in the first round. If he beats the Australian, he will meet the player who helped him so much in his tennis career.
There are only two more former champions in the draw. Hubert Hurkacz won the trophy in 2021, but he has struggled in recent months, which is why he's already out of the Top 20. The Polish player will start against Luciano Darderi or Pedro Martinez.
Daniil Medvedev is also in search of another trophy. It's been some time since the Russian last lifted some trophy, with his last coming in Rome two years ago. Medvedev won the tournament in 2023, and he will be the seventh seed this year. The former US Open winner will start against Arthur Rinderknech or Jaume Munar.
The top seed in Miami is Alexander Zverev. The German player can meet Benjamin Bonzi or a qualifier in the second round.
Nick Kyrgios was forced to retire from his match at the Indian Wells Open, but he appears in the Miami Open draw. The Australian player will start against a qualifier, and he could then take on the 22nd-seeded Karen Khachanov.
All eyes will also be on the Indian Wells Open finalists, who could meet already in the fourth round in Miami. The sixth-seeded Jack Draper will start against Roberto Bautista Agut or Jakub Mensik.
The eleventh-seeded Holger Rune, on the other hand, will take on one of the Americans. His opponent will be either Christopher Eubanks or Reilly Opelka.
