Jack Draper is an ATP Masters 1000 champion after he won the 2025 Indian Wells Open, beating Holger Rune in the final.

Draper is one of the most talented players on the ATP Tour. However, he couldn't fully show his talent in recent years, because he has struggled with injuries, which kept him away from making a proper breakthrough.

In the past 12 months, the British player finally managed to spend enough time on the tennis courts to start building some momentum, and even though his start of the 2025 season was derailed by yet another injury, Draper found his best tennis at the first ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season.

The 23-year-old Brit stunned Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals of the Indian Wells Open, and in the final, his opponent was Holger Rune, who recorded a very good win over Daniil Medvedev to reach the final.

It was a maiden Masters final for Draper, but his opponent had experience with ATP 1000 finals. In fact, the young Dane managed to win the 2022 Paris Masters.

But that experience didn't seem to be very valuable for Rune in this final. The 21-year-old Dane was broken in the first game of the match, and after Draper added another break, things started looking very bleak for Rune.

In fact, he was down 0-4 and 30-40 at one point, losing 19 of the first 26 points. Had he lost his serve for the third time, it's very possible that Rune would have been bageled in the opening set of this match.

The Dane avoided a bagel, but he couldn't avoid losing the first set. Draper was just the better player on the tennis court, and the Brit converted that into an easy 6-2 win in the first set.

Draper knew that the key to winning the first set so easily was also likely the break in the opening game. That's why he approached the second set very similarly.

The British player broke Rune's serve already in the opening game of the second set, and he controlled the match from there. Draper didn't face a single break point in the entire match.

On top of that, he also hit 10 aces and won 92% of points after his first serve. Draper just dominated on his serve and he was great on return as well. Rune, on the other hand, struggled to keep the ball in court as much as he would like.

All of that resulted in a very simple 6-2, 6-2 win for Draper, who lifted his first ATP Masters 1000 title at the 2025 Indian Wells Open. He will also rise to the World No. 7 position in the ATP Rankings on Monday.
