17-Year-Old Andreeva Stuns World No. 1 Sabalenka To Win Indian Wells Title

Mirra Andreeva has won her second consecutive WTA 1000 trophy after sensationally beating Aryna Sabalenka in the 2025 Indian Wells Open final.
This match was an exciting and deserved final for many reasons. These are two of the three players who collected the most points in 2025, and they have both played exceptionally in Indian Wells this week.
On top of that, Sabalenka has been a streak-killer recently. She ended Madison Keys' 16-match winning streak, and in the final of the WTA 1000 event at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, she took on another player on a long winning streak.
Andreeva had won 11 matches in a row before this final, and in those 11 matches, she beat both Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek twice. However, one player she didn't manage to beat this year was Sabalenka. In fact, the 17-year-old player recorded two of her three losses in 2025 against the WTA World No. 1.
She wanted to avoid her third loss against the Belarusian, and she started well. Andreeva had four break points in the third game of the match, but she left that game empty-handed.
Sabalenka, on the other hand, used the momentum swing to her advantage and broke the Russian's serve in the following game to lead 3-1. The top seed then controlled her lead from there. Sabalenka added another break, and after just 37 minutes of play, she won the first set of the match 6-2.
But the three-time Grand Slam champion was in trouble again at the start of the second set. Andreeva had three break points in the opening game, but she again couldn't use her chances.
Still, that didn't have to bother the teenager. She broke her opponent's serve a couple of games later and played exceptional tennis to continue troubling the World No. 1 player.
Andreeva faced a couple of break points when leading 3-2, but she produced some out-of-this-world shots to hold her serve. The teenager then held her serve for the remainder of the set to win it 6-4.
It was the first set that Sabalenka lost this week, and it was also the first set she lost on a hard court to Andreeva. The start of the third set was very important, and both players knew it.
The top seed, however, was broken to love in her first service game, and that caused her some trouble. Andreeva then had three game points on her serve to lead 2-0, but the Russian player couldn't use any, and Sabalenka broke back with the only break point that she had in that game.
But that wouldn't stop the teenager. The 17-year-old player was on a mission to further extend her 11-match winning streak, and she came closer to it after breaking her opponent's serve once again to lead 2-1.
After this break, Andreeva was able to hold her serve, establishing a 3-1 lead. The teenager was then the better player in the following games, and the one-break lead was enough for her to win this match.
Andreeva beat Sabalenka 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 to win her 12th consecutive match, claiming her second consecutive WTA 1000 trophy. She will move to the World No. 6 position on Monday.
