Jessica Pegula will play her first WTA Finals, an event that comes as her latest achievement in a tennis career that is still blossoming.

The American has consistently dealt with a lot of doubt regarding her tennis career. Some of that was because of her own constraints in her early career, which she overcome with perseverance, but most of it was because she was born into an extremely rich family.

"I think it's always something I've had in the back of my mind a little bit, but I think at the same time when I was younger, I would maybe try to prove myself too much," explained Pegula when asked about proving herself.

"I think that would create more pressure. Over the years, I've gotten a lot more comfortable as far as my family or my background and stuff like that. I think maybe taking that pressure off helped me to earn my accomplishments and have people more recognize my name on the tennis court than not."

Playing at the WTA Finals doesn't happen by chance as a player needs to demonstrate a high level of tennis over the span of many months and she has done just that this year: "So it's definitely a very rewarding, satisfying feeling. Especially when a lot of people I know, they know me as a tennis player and a great tennis player. I think that's always really nice to hear."

Her first match comes on Monday, October 31st when she will face Maria Sakkari. She is also playing in the doubles, partnering Coco Gauff.
