Barbora Krejcikova vs Daria Kasatkina: 2023 Zhengzhou Open - Preview & Prediction

by Evita Mueller

Barbora Krejcikova is playing some really good tennis this week, and she'll try to keep it going at the 2023 Zhengzhou Open.

Krejcikova has been a very interesting player this year because, for the most part, she didn't play all that well except for a few events. When she does play well, she generally ends up with the trophy that week, which is what happened a few times this year.

The most prominent run was probably in Dubai, where she finished off with a win over Iga Swiatek in the final to win the trophy. This week has been pretty impressive from Krejcikova, who didn't drop a single set this week.

Her opponent, Daria Kasatkina is a tricky player who played some solid tennis this week, but the Russian was far from her level last year, which was quite impressive at times.

Head-to-head:

Krejcikova and Kasatkina played a few times so far on the WTA Tour, with the Czech player leading 2-1. One of those matches happened earlier this year at the Dubai event, and it was a really close battle that ended in three sets.

Krejcikova won that one, as well as the match in Cincinnati in 2021, while Kasatkina won in Adelaide earlier this year.

Prediction:

So what might happen here? Well, a few things, actually, because Krejcikoa is really playing one of her signature weeks of tennis, which usually ends with her winning the trophy. Whether that happens this week remains to be seen, but if she wants to, she needs to beat Kasatkina.

The Russian hasn't played invincible tennis as she faced quite a bit of resistance in her matches. She didn't have to play Jabeur because the Tunisian withdrew. However, that might backfire because she might lose her rhythm. I somehow favour Krejcikova simply because of her track record.

Prediction: Barbora Krejcikova to win in three sets.
