Roger Federer was present at the 2023 Shanghai Masters to be honoured for everything he did in tennis and at the ATP 1000 event, and he ruled out a return to tennis.
Roger Federer retired from tennis last year at the Laver Cup, and it's been a really interesting time for him. He remained quite active with tennis activities, going to different places and getting honoured.
One of those ceremonies happened in Shanghai as he was presented with an award for everything he did in tennis. China has always been a hotspot for his fans, and they were delighted to see him once again in the country.
During an accompanying event there, Federer responded to some questions confirming that retirement wasn't that hard on him. He's extremely happy and has no desire to return to tennis, even if it were possible.
I’m extremely happily retired. For me, no, no, there’s no coming back. I had an absolute blast on the Tour. I feel like I took the lemon and I squeezed it out ’til the last drop. I gave it all I had and there was none left.
Federer also confirmed that he does keep track of what is going on in tennis which he admitted earlier this year as well. It's kind of hard to look away in a sense because he's interested to see what's going on and how players are performing.
Now I’m just a super tennis fan like all of you. But what a journey it’s been…it’s been incredible. Of course I miss those moments but now another chapter has begun and the last year has been terrific.
Now, less tennis (himself), more tennis with the children but I hope down the road I can play an exhibition match here in Shanghai and around the world so I can play in front of you all again.
