Jannik Sinner enjoyed one of the best moments of his career at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, and it led to further good news in the latest ATP rankings.
Thirty-six days ago, Sinner suffered one of the most brutal defeats in tennis history. In the 2025 French Open final, he had three championship points in the fourth set at 5-3, 40-0 on Carlos Alcaraz, but lost in a deciding set tiebreak.
That devastating moment meant Sinner reaching the Wimbledon final was already a great achievement. However, there were questions about how he would cope mentally against Alcaraz in the final after the French Open final and losing his previous five matches against the Spaniard.
Sinner's response was emphatic. Alcaraz won the opening set, but the Italian outplayed his rival in the following three sets to triumph 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 and secure a maiden Wimbledon crown.
Before Wimbledon, Alcaraz had significantly closed the gap to Sinner to 1,130 points by winning the Monte-Carlo Masters, Italian Open, French Open, and the Queen's Club Championships during a very dominant few months.
Sinner is now on 12,030 points compared to Alcaraz's 8,600. The two-time Australian Open winner gained 1,600 points while Alcaraz lost 700 after being unable to defend his title from last year.
Although a lead of 3,430 is a healthy one, Sinner has a lot more points to defend than Alcaraz for the rest of the year, meaning the 2022 US Open champion still has a chance of finishing 2025 as the ATP world No. 1 if he performs well.
Jack Draper fell a spot to No. 5. The Briton suffered a very disappointing second-round loss at his home tournament against Marin Cilic. Taylor Fritz, who went much further by reaching the semifinal, took Draper's place at No. 4.
Ben Shelton's solid run to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon was enough to secure him a career-high ranking of No. 9. The American lost to Sinner for the sixth consecutive time at that stage of the event.
Alexander Zverev at No. 3, Novak Djokovic, who confirmed he wants to return to Wimbledon at least one more time, at No. 6, Lorenzo Musetti at No. 7, Holger Rune at No. 8, and Andrey Rublev at No. 10 complete the rest of the ATP Top 10.
Frances Tiafoe is one place below his career-high at No. 11. However, the American has a lot of points to defend in the next two months from his runs to last year's Cincinnati Open final and US Open and Citi Open semifinals, meaning it might be challenging for him to remain that high.
Daniil Medvedev plummeted five spots to No. 14. The 2021 US Open champion shockingly lost in the opening round of a Grand Slam for the third consecutive time after Benjamin Bonzi pulled off an upset.
João Fonseca was another man who moved to a career-high. The teenage prodigy climbed six positions to No. 48 after getting to the Wimbledon third round, a solid achievement for a man with little experience playing on grass.
Stefanos Tsitsipas, whose partnership with Goran Ivanisevic is in doubt after the Croatian's brutal words about him, fell to No. 27, and Flavio Cobolli hitting a career-high of No. 19 were among the other changes to the ATP rankings.
