Swiatek Tipped To Break Evert's Roland Garros Record By Shriver

Former WTA player Pam Shriver thinks that Iga Swiatek will break Chris Evert's Roland Garros record, which sits at seven trophies right now.

Chris Evert was an amazing tennis player who won a lot of trophies in her career. Among those trophies, she has won seven Roland Garros trophies which is the best mark in women's tennis.

No player has ever won more trophies in Paris as Evert finished ahead of Steffi Graff, who has six, and Margaret Court, who had five. There are some great players on clay on the women's side of tennis, but none are as good as Iga Swiatek.

The Polish player has been spectacular so far, winning three Roland Garros trophies. The 3rd came this year over Karolina Muchova, and according to Shriver, who talked on Inside-In Podcast, Swiatek will likely topple Evert for the most trophies.

I do think Iga Swiatek can certainly chase down Chrissie’s record, already with three. It’s hard to believe it’s two years ago this week that Iga played that crazy Roland Garros in the middle of October bc of the pandemic. That’s what started to up her tally.

So yeah, anything is possible. I think she can. Obviously you don’t know what’s around the corner as far as if Andreeva for example just becomes a great claycourt player. But who else looks as comfortable on clay… whether it’s a little older than Iga, the same age or little bit younger… NOBODY.”

As Shriver explained the future is unknown, and anything can happen with another player emerging to be dominant on clay.

Swiatek certainly will have plenty of chances to get it done as she's already at three, and she's only 22. There will be plenty of time, and she's certainly good enough as she demonstrated in the previous years.
