The WTA 1000 event will take place in Toronto from August 8 through August 14 and will bring back WTA players after a three-year absence.
As the ATP and WTA tournaments alternate between Toronto and Montreal, the WTA 1000 tournament in Canada is one of the most intriguing events on the Tour. The top names in women's tennis will be present at the 2022 Toronto Open this time.
Camila Giorgi is the most recent winner of the tournament as she triumphed last year, while Bianca Andreescu, is the last player to triumph in Toronto. The Italian will start against the ninth-seeded Emma Raducanu while the Canadian will play against the eleventh-seeded Daria Kasatkina.
Iga Swiatek, who was present in the CN Tower where the draw took place, will be the first seeded in Toronto and the young Pole will meet the winner of the match between Veronika Kudermetova and Shelby Rogers in the second round. Fans can't wait to see Serena Williams again and the 23-time Grand Slam champion will meet a qualifier in Canada.
Some of the interesting first-round matches include the matchup between Naomi Osaka and Kaia Kanepi. Sloane Stephens and Sofia Kenin will meet also in the first round. Venus Williams will take on Jil Teichmann as the winner will meet the second-seeded Anett Kontaveit and Coco Gauff will begin against a qualifier.
