Cameron Norrie and Carlos Alcaraz are two players that entered the Top 10 of the ATP Rankings just this year but they keep rising every week.
The young Spaniard is often referred to as the 'future of tennis'. On the other hand, Cameron Norrie is a player that's the highest-ranked British player and one that can soon bring a Grand Slam title to the Great Britain.
Cameron Norrie and Carlos Alcaraz met already four times with the younger from the duo winning the first three matches, while the Brit won the most recent match. Recently, the two practiced together and the British no. 1 had a lot of words of praise to address to Carlos Alcaraz.
“You always think Rafa is gonna be done soon and he comes back and he plays a crazy level,” Norrie says with a smile per iNews. “But I think there’s so many good guys coming through with with Charlie [Alcaraz], [Jannik] Sinner… Felix [Auger-Aliassime] is kind of a different generation coming through but I’m gonna give myself the best chance and work as hard as I can in order to try and do that. It’s just a little bit different."
“Those guys don’t really have the same experience that Djoko[vic], Nadal, Andy [Murray] really have so if they’re playing those big matches in the semi-finals or the finals for the first time, and if I’m facing them then I think it’s more of an edge than if you’re playing Djokovic or Nadal in the final so it’s an interesting one but I still think it doesn’t really get much easier but it can be like a slight edge.”
“On serve and return, I think I’m not being as picky as I would like and not really hitting the spots as well as I could be, especially on the grass I think that showed and I think when I was doing I was getting a lot of success and not really giving my serve away too easily,” Norrie adds.
“And then I think just my general ball speed was up way more and I was not really taking any resting shots and really taking it to guys. I felt like when I was being more aggressive, I was actually missing less.”
“He was using the drop shot incredibly and especially having that forehand that he does and then having the option to go to the drop shot after that… you have to be ready for anything and you can learn a lot from him and his hand skills and his game and his power,” Norrie says.
