Eurosport tennis analyst Mats Wilander thinks Novak Djokovic's Australian Open record is comparable to Rafael Nadal's Roland Garros one.
Comparing accomplishments is generally simple as you look at the number and pick the bigger one. However, Eurosport analyst Mats Wilander compared 10 to 14 and found the accomplishment similar. The trick lies in the nuance of his idea and the surfaces at which these events are played.
You can easily compare the record of Djokovic's 10 Aus Opens with Rafa Nadal's 14 French Opens.
On the surface, winning an event 14 times is tougher than doing it 10 times. You have to win 28 matches more so it makes sense, yet Wilander argues that Djokovic's road to the trophies was harder. Most players know how to play on hard courts which can't be said for clay courts because there are plenty of great players that never fell in love with clay courts such as Andy Roddick, Daniil Medvedev, and Nick Kyrgios.
If you win 10 AusOpens on hard, that means you have to beat maybe the best field in tennis because everybody knows how to play on hard courts.
Did Djokovic's 10 wins come harder than Nadal's 14? What do you think about this? Let us know below.
