Carla Suarez Navarro enjoyed a lengthy tennis career that ended just recently and she spoke about a lot of topics related to tennis in a recent interview with AS.
The 34-years-old Spanish player won two WTA titles in her career when she triumphed in Oeiras in 2014 and in Doha in 2016. In the same year, Carla Suarez Navarro also reached her career-high 6th place in the WTA Rankings. Now, she spoke about her compatriot, Rafael Nadal, who won 22 Grand Slam titles in his career.
“Obviously, Rafa continues, but we are in his last years. Time passes for everyone and he has been subjected to a lot of demand. Physically, he is no longer what he was, although mentally he will always surprise us,” Suarez Navarro said.
Recently, Rafael Nadal withdrew from the 2022 Laver Cup and spent time with his family that welcomed their first child. Therefore, there were certain doubts about his participation during the year-end events in Paris and Turin, but his doctor provided an update, stating:
"Rafa is fine, very happy with his fatherhood," said Angel Cotorro adding: "Once that situation is fulfilled, which logically takes you out of the day to day, he is training well and following the schedule for the end of the season."
"I think the secret is hard work, passion for the sport, trying to improve every day, and having outstanding physical tennis qualities. He is a historic player for our sport and there he continues to give us joy."
