Despite losing in the first round of the 2022 San Diego Open against compatriot James Duckworth, it seemed that Alexei Popyrin enjoyed the match.

The 23-years-old Australian lost more matches than he won this season and he was hoping to turn his fortune around at the 2022 San Diego Open. Alexei Popyrin also got a solid draw when he was facing an opponent that is ranked only seven places above him and if he would have triumphed, he would meet one of the qualifiers.

However, after two hours and 20 minutes, Popyrin lost to Duckworth 5-7, 6-4, 1-6. But the match featured also a funny moment, that was eventually overturned by the umpire.

During one of the rallies, Popyrin played a volley that flew high in the air and his opponent had an easy shot to win a point. However, he ducked under the net and put up his racquet, which was eventually hit by his opponent and the ball also went inside of the court.

However, it appeared that Popyrin touched the net with his racquet and so the beautiful volley was overturned by the umpire who awarded the point to his opponent.
