Rafael Nadal and his wife Maria Francisca Perello were lucky to avoid a burglary in their home in Mallorca as they were a target of criminal gang.
After being forced to withdraw from the 2022 Wimbledon due to an injury, Rafael Nadal is enjoying some time off the courts as he's been seen dancing and enjoying his time at a party with a group of friends recently. Yet, everything could have changed for the 22-time Grand Slam champion.
Recently, Italian football player, Marco Verratti had an unpleasant experience of being robbed and the same gang seemed to be targeting also Lionel Messi and Rafael Nadal.
The Spanish police found a notebook which was leaked to newspaper Diario de Ibizia and later reported by The Mirror. One of the notes in the notebook stated:
“PortoCristo. Nadal Mallorca.”
The gang was linked to many other burglaries and it seems that they were targeting successful athletes and their expensive mansions. Reacting to the arrest, the Spanish Police stated:
"Officers have smashed an itinerant criminal organisation specialising in breaking into luxury villas following a robbery at the house of a well-known footballer."
"Seven people belonging to a criminal gang of Albanian origin which had allegedly just stolen £2.5m in designer watches and jewellery, have been arrested."
"The belongings stolen during the raid on the footballer’s villa were recovered in the car two of the suspected members of the gang were using after they were arrested."
"Three searches were subsequently carried out in Malaga and one in Ibiza and evidence found linking the gang to another 15 raids on luxury villas in the provinces of Alicante, Malaga and Murcia.”
