Nick Kyrgios has been fined a few times over the course of the US Open and his latest one made the total tally $32,500.

The Australian received a warning for violently smashing a drink bottle on the ground during the third set, and he then vented his resentment by shattering two rackets at the conclusion of the five-set defeat. His fine total, which now stands at 32,500 dollars (about GBP 28,000), is by far the highest of any player. The latest offences cost him 14,000 US dollars (around 12,000 GBP) each.

The fine was Kyrgios’ fifth separate offence of the tournament, with previous sanctions coming for spitting, swearing and smashing rackets. In the pursuit of his first grand slam singles title, Kyrgios made no attempt to hide his disappointment at the defeat.

"I honestly feel like s**t. I feel like I’ve let so many people down. I feel like these four tournaments are the only ones that ever are going to matter. It’s just like you’ve got to start it all again. I have to wait until the Australian Open." said Kyrgios.
