Jannik Sinner was disappointed after losing to Carlos Alcaraz at the 2022 US Open. He wants to get revenge the next time they meet.
Sinner had a match point in the fourth set of his match against Alcaraz. The young Italian was up 5-4 and served for the match. He had an advantage on his serve, but that was not enough for him to win.
Eventually, Alcaraz completed a sensational comeback to win the match in five sets, 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-7(0), 7-5, 6-3. For the Spaniard, it was a great win, but for his opponent, it was a great disappointment.
Sinner admitted that this was one of the most painful losses of his tennis career. He wanted to focus on the positives but found it difficult to do after such a disappointing loss.
"I had some tough losses, for sure. This is in the top list. I think this one will hurt for quite a while. But when I wake up, I will try to somehow take only the positives. But it’s tough, for sure. Maybe next time I can win this."
Sinner beat Alcaraz in both of their meetings in 2022. Still, he didn't have enough to beat him this time. The Italian player admitted that he played even better than he did during the first week of the tournament, but it was still not enough.
"The first week here I didn’t play my best tennis, for sure. But today I raised it because he’s the kind of player who makes you raise the level."
Sinner also spoke about his upcoming plans. The Italian wants to represent his country, which is why he signed up to compete in the Davis Cup.
"I will next play in the Davis Cup. Before I want to practice again in the best possible way, trying to improve. Maybe next time I can win. This kind of level was very high for sure. It was a good match."
