Kei Nishikori fell out of the ATP Rankings today as the Japanese player was not active in the past twelve months due to injuries.
For the majority of his career, Kei Nishikori struggled with ailments, and today he witnessed his name go from the ATP Rankings. Nishikori's name was omitted from the list for the first time in 12 years because he failed to score any points over the previous 12 months.
Nishikori is scheduled to make a return in Canada to compete in certain challenger events soon. When he last competed in tennis, Nishikori was ranked 49th, and since then gradually slipped.
Since the operation delayed Nishikori from competing, his ranking gradually fell from 47th in January of this year. He was placed 84th by May, then on June 12th, he dropped out of the top 100. August 7th saw him drop from 160th to 297th and by the start of September, he was down to 700th in the world.
He will have to fight a steep uphill battle to get back to his former career-high, but most certainly, he will be able to do it.
