This season, Novak Djokovic was only able to compete in two of the four Grand Slam events. He hopes that this will improve in 2023.
The Serbian's year didn't get off to a good start as he was denied entry to the 2022 Australian Open. Even though the season hasn't ended yet, many people are already considering the 2023 Australian Open, which is why Novak Djokovic was questioned about it prior to the 2022 Laver Cup.
Back then, he said: "I'm waiting for the news. It's really not in my hands right now. I'm hoping I can get some positive news soon."
There were some hints that Djokovic's participation in 2023 should be a sure thing as journalist Luis Alfredo Alvarez tweeted: "Yesterday I heard directly from Craig Tiley that surely Novak Djokovic will play the Australian Open 2023."
Also the tournament director, Craig Tiley previously hinted that the 21-time Grand Slam champion will return to Melbourne, saying: "I think we are doing our best. Clearly, it's not my decision whether he will be able to play at the Australian Open, but Novak is always welcome, he knows that many people in Australia like to watch him play."
Now, it seems that the participation of Novak Djokovic is almost a sure thing when during a recent appearance, CEO of Tennis Australia and Australian Open director said:
“We are on track to have all the top players back,” Tiley said at a Melbourne Victory ‘Victory in Business’ lunch on Wednesday. “We are at a different point in time now than we were nine months ago and I think it’s a very different environment with people travelling freely around the world and we hope to have all the best players here in January.”
