Roger Federer is preparing to play his final career match and it will happen on Friday at the 2022 Laver Cup in London.

According to sources, Federer won't be competing in any singles matches at the Laver Cup and will only play one doubles match. It's unclear if things will really turn out that way, but Federer reflected on his career in an interview for a Swiss publication.

"I wanted to tell my closest circle shortly beforehand - so 48 hours before the push of a button. I wanted to keep this circle small so as not to burden my friends. They were always asked about me. And I didn't want them to have to lie" explained Federer about his way of announcing the news.

It was a career that makes him very proud and when asked about what particularly makes him proud, Federer explained: "That I was allowed to play on such a level for so long and have so many fans. During Corona, I saw what it's like to play in front of empty ranks in Paris. I will miss having the audience behind me in full stadiums."

He also doesn't have any regrets in his career admitting that he might have found more sucess earlier had he been more professional but it might have cut his career short.

"Not much. Sure, there are also smaller things, but I can't think of any examples. I see it as an absolute dream career, had a casual childhood" said Federer continuing :

"If I had been a little more professional at a young age, I might have had more success. But then I might have burned out earlier because it would have been too serious for me."
