Rafael Nadal never won the ATP Finals but he's excited about having a chance to do so at an age where it seemed impossible.
Due to a surprisingly strong year, Rafael Nadal found himself among the best 8 players in Turin. He will have a chance to compete for the ATP Finals at an age that seemed like fantasy to him a few years ago:
"I try my best in every single event. That's true. Doesn't matter if I won it [in the past] or not," he said.
"When I enter a tennis tournament, I want to win and I'm going to try my best to achieve that goal. Here I was not able to make it, I was not good enough to make it in the past.
"So I just accept that and I'm happy to give myself another chance at the age of 36 — something, for me, that was difficult to imagine years ago."
In Turin, Nadal is competing for both the prized trophy and the No. 1 in the rankings. By winning the championship in Turin, the Spaniard can secure his sixth end-of-year No. 1 ranking and first since 2019.
If Stefanos Tsitsipas loses his chance to win the title as an unbeaten champion, Rafael Nadal may take the top spot by winning all three of his round-robin matches and then making it to the championship match.
