Novak Djokovic is hopeful that he'll be able to play at the US Open however his coach Goran Ivanisevic doesn't share his optimism.

The Djokovic situation has been clear for months now but still, some people are holding out hope that the Serbian will be permitted to enter the US. Djokovic himself updated fans recently on social media confirming that he's preparing for the event in case he's allowed to play.

It's only sensible from Djokovic however the likelihood of him being at Flushing Meadows is low. Goran Ivanisevic knows that and he admitted to having zero hope in a recent interview with La Repubblica:

"There is always hope, Novak will do everything to be there, perhaps with a special visa. But there are only two weeks. And, personally, I have zero hope that (Joe) Biden will change the rules before the tournament starts. To me it’s all nonsense: if you are vaccinated but positive you can enter the United States. If you are not vaccinated but negative, you are banned. There is too much politics in sports.”

Speaking of Djokovic's season, Ivanisevic explained that it was very hard to prepare for events because he never knew where he will be able to play:

"As he was not vaccinated, Nole did not know where he would be allowed to play until the end. In Monte Carlo he was not ready, in Belgrade he ran out of gas in the final and Paris he met Nadal who was better than him. The real rebirth began in Rome."
