Lorenzo Musetti is enjoying the best season of his career and he wanted to show that also to fans at the 2022 Florence Open.

In 2022, Lorenzo Musetti lifted his first ATP title as he became the first player ever to beat Carlos Alcaraz in an ATP final earlier this year. He continued his growth with even more solid results and on Monday, he will move to his new career-high 24th place in the ATP Rankings.

After beating Bernabe Zapata Miralles and Mackenzie McDonald at the 2022 Florence Open, the Italian took on Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals but lost in two sets as he also had to request a medical time out during match. Afterwards, he revealed that he fought a panic attack.

"I have never suffered from panic attacks, but it is something that you cannot overcome during the match. It takes time to go back to normal. I didn't want to retire because it didn't feel right towards the people who came here to see me," Musetti confessed to Eurosport.

Explaining exactly what happened during the match, while also giving credit to his opponent, who is fighting for the spot in the 2022 ATP Finals, the young Italian said:

"It's a stomach ache, a blockage of the diaphragm, I don't know how to define it; you need no advice from doctors or nuclear scientists (laughs), it is a physiological thing. It was as if no air entered the lungs, an important burden to carry during the game," Musetti said.

“It affected me enough, even if I don't want to take away any credit from Felix who immediately started playing really well and bothering me with his game. Surely, I wasn't at my best from a physical point of view. I am bitter. I will try to find the positive side of this defeat."
